Work on Smallwood Dam reached a major milestone in July with substantial completion of repairs, paving the way for the lake's restoration. The refilling process commenced on August 4 and is expected to conclude within eight to ten weeks, marking a significant step toward recovery for the region.
The dam failure occurred six years ago, resulting in the complete drainage of Smallwood Lake and substantial damage to the surrounding area. The extended reconstruction effort has been closely monitored by authorities overseeing the restoration of Michigan's water infrastructure.
While progress continues at other affected facilities, work at Secord Dam has encountered delays. Engineers discovered a problem with a spillway gate at the Secord facility, necessitating additional corrective measures before the project can advance further.
Construction and repair work is also underway at Edenville Dam as part of the broader effort to restore the region's water management systems and return normalcy to affected communities.
