A microfinance lending initiative that began with a modest $55,000 fund has evolved into a substantial support network for women business owners, with cumulative loan disbursements now exceeding $525,000. The programme, which launched in 2013 through a partnership between a major foundation and nonprofit lending organisation Accessity, has processed 65 loans since inception.
The initiative was designed to address barriers faced by women entrepreneurs seeking capital to launch or expand their ventures. Through its operations, the fund has facilitated job creation and business sustainability across multiple sectors, contributing to economic participation among underrepresented business communities.
Building on this success, a new three-year grant valued at $500,000 has been announced to scale the programme further. The expanded funding will strengthen business training components and enhance financial support mechanisms, enabling the initiative to reach a broader base of entrepreneurs and strengthen its impact on job creation and economic development.
Microfinance programmes targeting women entrepreneurs have gained recognition as effective tools for economic inclusion, particularly in emerging markets and underserved communities. The growth trajectory of this initiative demonstrates sustained demand for accessible financing solutions and professional business development support.
