Midcap, smallcap funds drive mutual fund inflows to four-month peak
Equity mutual fund inflows surged to a four-month high in August, buoyed by renewed investor interest in mid and smallcap segments. New fund offerings also contributed to the momentum while largecap funds continued to see outflows.

Equity mutual funds attracted substantial inflows in August, marking the strongest month in four months as investors shifted focus towards mid and smallcap opportunities. The surge was underpinned by a combination of factors, including renewed appetite for equity schemes and a revival in new fund offerings, which have historically been a barometer of investor sentiment.
Gross systematic investment plan (SIP) inflows climbed 1 per cent month-on-month to reach Rs 32,297 crore, marking a fresh all-time high. The consistent growth in SIP contributions reflects sustained confidence among retail investors despite market volatility, with many continuing their regular investment commitments through this disciplined investment mechanism.
However, the market momentum has not been uniform across all fund categories. Largecap funds continued to witness outflows during the period, suggesting a tactical rotation by investors towards higher-growth segments. This shift indicates changing investor preferences, with market participants increasingly confident in the prospects of mid and smallcap companies.
The August recovery in equity fund inflows comes as the mutual fund industry looks to maintain momentum heading into the remainder of the fiscal year. Analysts attribute the rebound partly to valuations becoming more attractive across segments and improving sentiment towards domestic equities.
