FC Midtjylland's UEFA Conference League opener against KF Egnatia has been relocated from Tirana's Arena Kombetare to the Elbasan Arena, the Danish club announced on Thursday. The change comes amid civil unrest affecting Albania's capital city.
The match, scheduled for the Danish side's first group-stage appearance in the competition, will now take place at the alternative venue in Elbasan, approximately 50 kilometres south of Tirana. Both clubs proceeded with preparations for the rescheduled fixture despite the venue change.
The relocation represents a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of players, officials, and supporters attending the continental competition. UEFA Conference League matches have become increasingly significant for smaller European clubs seeking continental exposure and qualification opportunities.
KF Egnatia, representing Albania in the competition, will host the encounter at their designated alternative ground. The exact timing of the match remained subject to confirmation following the venue change announcement.
