MILF-backed candidate challenges Comelec disqualification at Supreme Court

COTABATO CITY — The camp of Anwar Alamada is taking its candidacy dispute to the Supreme Court following the Commission on Elections (Comelec) decision to disqualify him from running for district representative in Maguindanao del Sur's fifth parliamentary district.
Alamada, backed by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), had sought to contest the Comelec ruling through legal channels. According to his lawyer Badrodin Mangindra, the candidate's camp asserts that all procedural requirements were met during the filing process.
The case marks another chapter in electoral disputes in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), where political candidacies have frequently faced legal challenges. Alamada's decision to appeal to the Supreme Court signals the candidate's determination to reverse the Comelec decision and proceed with his electoral bid.
The Supreme Court petition is expected to be filed in the coming days, as Alamada's legal representatives prepare their arguments for judicial review of the poll body's disqualification order.
