A military transport aircraft arrived in Hanoi carrying 15,401 samples of martyrs' remains collected from across the country, representing a significant milestone in Vietnam's ongoing efforts to identify and honor its war dead. Lieutenant General Ho Van Thai noted the shipment marked the first occasion that the armed forces had directly participated in transporting such precious cargo, elevating the significance of the delivery as an act of national tribute.
The samples have been sent to Hanoi for DNA analysis and identification purposes, part of a comprehensive national program to account for soldiers who died during various conflicts. The 11th such shipment reflects the scale and duration of identification efforts that have continued since the end of the war.
Parallel recovery efforts are underway across multiple provinces. In Ho Chi Minh City, a team recovered 19 additional sets of remains at Le Thi Rieng Park, while Dong Thap province has accelerated its sampling operations with a target completion date in October. Quang Tri province recently held a solemn memorial service for 30 martyrs as part of ongoing commemoration activities.
The identification of war remains remains a priority for Vietnamese authorities, with teams systematically working to locate, recover, and identify fallen soldiers from across the country. Each successful identification allows families to properly honor their loved ones and provides closure to grieving relatives.
