A military aircraft transported additional sets of war martyrs' remains to Hanoi on Wednesday as part of the ongoing nationwide effort to locate and identify soldiers killed during the country's conflicts. The operation marked the 12th transport mission since the intensified recovery campaign began, and the second to utilize military aviation assets for the sensitive cargo.
The shipment represents the culmination of sample collection efforts by Military Region 9, which concluded its contribution to the 500-day campaign aimed at accelerating the search, recovery and identification of fallen soldiers across Vietnam. The remains will undergo DNA analysis at facilities in Hanoi to establish identities and facilitate proper reburial.
The recovery initiative has yielded significant results in recent months. A separate operation at Le Thi Rieng Park recovered 58 additional sets of remains, while authorities in Can Tho oversaw the reburial of 120 sets of identified martyrs. Officials have emphasized how advances in identification technology continue to expand possibilities for locating and authenticating remains of soldiers missing since previous conflicts.
The systematic recovery program reflects Vietnam's commitment to honoring fallen service members and providing closure to families. Authorities have indicated the campaign will continue beyond the initial 500-day target period to ensure comprehensive coverage of potential burial sites nationwide.
