Military eliminates two NPA fighters, recovers weapons in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY — The military has reported successful operations against New People's Army (NPA) insurgents in Eastern Visayas, resulting in two rebel casualties and the recovery of weapons and ordnance.

The 52nd Infantry Battalion said troops engaged NPA members in remote areas of Barangay Jicontol in Dolores, Eastern Samar during combat operations. Two suspected NPA fighters were killed in the encounter, according to military officials.

In a separate operation conducted in Northern Samar, government forces recovered an undisclosed number of firearms and an anti-personnel mine. Military authorities did not immediately provide additional details regarding the location or timing of the weapons seizure.

The operations are part of ongoing military efforts to counter communist insurgency in the region. The military said it would continue surveillance and combat operations against NPA elements operating in the Visayas.
