ILIGAN CITY – Armed Forces and Philippine National Police personnel halted a Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) convoy during a checkpoint operation in Kolambugan, Lanao del Norte, on Wednesday morning.
Col. Leo Sua, the Lanao del Norte provincial police director, confirmed that authorities conducted the checkpoint operation in Barangay Libertad at approximately 7:30 a.m. The joint security operation involved both police and military personnel stationed at the checkpoint.
The MILF has been operating in several areas of Mindanao under the terms of various peace agreements with the national government. Such checkpoint operations are periodically conducted by security forces in volatile regions to monitor movements and maintain peace and order.
