Military, police lauded for BARMM parliament security operations

COTABATO CITY – Military and police units received commendation Wednesday for their role in ensuring security during the opening of the first elected Bangsamoro parliament, a significant milestone in the autonomous region's political transition.

The Philippine Army's 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) formally recognized the troops and officers who coordinated security operations throughout the landmark event. The recognition ceremony highlighted the multi-agency efforts required to manage the complex security environment surrounding the historic legislative proceedings.

The inaugural session marked the formal establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao's (BARMM) first popularly elected parliament, followed by the election of the region's first chief minister through democratic processes. The event represented a key implementation phase of the Bangsamoro Basic Law and the broader peace process in Mindanao.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos attended the proceedings, underscoring the national government's support for the autonomous region's political development. The successful completion of the parliamentary opening and ministerial elections without major security incidents reflected months of coordination among military, police, and local government units.

The operations demonstrated the capability of joint security forces to manage high-profile events in the conflict-affected region while maintaining public order and allowing democratic processes to proceed.
