Milk prices likely to remain firm despite approaching flush season
Rising feed costs and uneven rainfall are constraining milk supplies across India, while festive demand and stricter paneer quality controls could keep dairy prices elevated in coming weeks.

Dairy analysts warn that milk prices are unlikely to ease substantially during the traditionally abundant flush season, driven by a combination of production headwinds and seasonal demand spikes.
Cattle feed expenses have surged 15-20 per cent, raising production costs for dairy farmers across the country. Simultaneously, erratic rainfall patterns have disrupted fodder availability and milk output in key producing regions, tightening supplies when farmers might typically boost production.
Festive season consumption is further pressuring prices upward. As households prepare for celebrations and religious observances, demand for milk and milk products rises sharply. The crackdown on adulterated paneer—where substandard products previously masked supply shortfalls—has also reduced the availability of cheaper alternatives, redirecting consumers toward authentic dairy products at premium prices.
Industry experts indicate the combined effect of elevated input costs, weather-related supply constraints, and seasonal demand patterns will likely prevent the typical price moderation associated with the flush season. Consumers should anticipate sustained dairy prices through the festive period, with relief unlikely until broader feed cost pressures ease.
