Mimaropa advances measles-rubella drive with 44% vaccination coverage

The Department of Health's Mimaropa regional office reported substantial progress in its Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity, with 137,245 children vaccinated against the two highly contagious diseases as of August 24. The figure represents 43.96 percent of the region's immunization target, according to the DOH Mimaropa tracker.

The campaign is targeting 312,191 children across Mimaropa, which comprises the provinces of Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan. Health officials launched the supplemental immunization activity to boost protection against measles and rubella, diseases that can cause serious complications in children if left unchecked.

The Mimaropa office, based in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, has been coordinating the vaccination drive across vaccination sites throughout the region. The supplemental immunization activity complements the country's routine immunization program and targets children who may have been missed by previous vaccination efforts or require additional doses for complete protection.

Health authorities continue to encourage parents and guardians to bring their children to designated vaccination centers to ensure they receive protection against these preventable diseases. The DOH has emphasized the importance of achieving high immunization coverage to prevent outbreaks and protect community health, particularly among vulnerable child populations.
