CALAPAN CITY — Inflation in Mimaropa climbed to 5.4 percent in August, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported, representing a month-on-month increase from July's 5.3 percent rate. The regional acceleration underscores mounting price pressures across the Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan provinces.
The PSA's Regional Statistical Services Office attributed the rise chiefly to escalating costs in housing-related commodities, which have emerged as a key driver of inflationary pressures across the region. Housing expenses encompass rent, building materials, and home maintenance costs that significantly impact household budgets.
The August figure represents a dramatic surge compared to year-over-year performance. The region recorded just 1.2 percent inflation in August 2023, indicating that prices have more than quadrupled in just 12 months.
