CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Police Regional Office in Mimaropa is enhancing its ability to detect early warning signs of violence and radicalization among youth through a three-day seminar-workshop focused on Nihilistic Violent Extremism (NVE).
The training program, which concluded Friday, brought together police personnel from both Occidental and Oriental Mindoro provinces to develop skills in recognizing and addressing radicalization risks in their communities.
The initiative represents part of broader efforts by Philippine law enforcement to prevent the spread of extremist ideologies among younger demographics. Officials emphasized the importance of early intervention and community awareness in combating emerging security threats.
Police personnel received instruction on identifying behavioral indicators, engagement tactics, and preventive measures suited to local contexts. The workshop aimed to equip officers with knowledge to work effectively with schools, families, and community organizations in safeguarding at-risk youth.
The Mimaropa region, which comprises several provinces in central Philippines, has prioritized coordination among municipal and regional police units to strengthen response capabilities against violent extremism.
