CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Educational authorities in the Mimaropa region have completed validation and evaluation of approximately 1,000 scholarship allocations under the Bagong Pilipinas Merit Scholarship Program (BPMSP), marking significant progress in the government's effort to support higher education access.
The validated scholarship slots will provide selected college students with P45,000 in financial assistance during School Year 2026-2027. The initiative targets academically deserving senior high school graduates from the Mimaropa provinces—Mindoro Occidental and Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
The BPMSP forms part of the government's broader educational agenda to expand opportunities for merit-based scholarship support across the archipelago. The program prioritizes students demonstrating strong academic performance while facing financial constraints that could otherwise hinder their pursuit of tertiary education.
Beneficiaries will be formally announced ahead of the next academic year. Regional education officials have emphasized the scholarship program's role in developing human resources across South and Southeast Asian standards, with particular focus on underserved provincial communities.
