South Cotabato has become the first province to host two legs of the House of Representatives' LegisHear public consultation program, marking a significant expansion of the chamber's direct engagement with regional communities. Senior Deputy Speaker Ferdinand Hernandez, who represents South Cotabato's 2nd District, welcomed the program to the province on Saturday and acknowledged Speaker Faustino G. Dy III's commitment to decentralizing legislative consultations.
The LegisHear program represents the House's effort to bring parliamentary processes and legislative discussions to citizens outside the capital region. By establishing multiple consultation venues in Mindanao, the chamber aims to gather broader input on pending measures and legislative priorities from provinces that have historically faced geographical barriers to participating in Manila-based consultations.
Mindanao's selection as host to dual LegisHear sessions underscores the House's recognition of the island group's political significance and the need for more direct communication channels between legislators and provincial constituents. The consultations provide platforms for stakeholders to present concerns, suggestions, and feedback on proposed legislation directly to House members.
