CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Alarmed by a shooting incident in Banga and other recent campus violence, police in Northern Mindanao are mobilizing resources to fortify security at schools across the region.
Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay Jr., director of the Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10), has mandated that police commanders significantly increase their presence in and around school campuses. The directive emphasizes heightened visibility during critical periods, particularly as the school year opens and students return to classrooms.
The security initiative extends beyond campus perimeters, reflecting a broader strategy to protect students during their daily commutes and activities in surrounding communities. Police officials are coordinating with school administrators and local residents to create what they describe as a "whole-of-community" defense mechanism against threats to student safety.
The move underscores growing concern among law enforcement about escalating violence affecting educational institutions in the Philippines. Regional police have indicated that the enhanced security posture will remain in place as long as the threat environment warrants it.
