The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has identified a Mindanao politician as the financial backer of a drug smuggling operation tied to a significant methamphetamine seizure in Laos, authorities announced Wednesday. PDEA spokesperson Atty. Joseph Frederick Calulut confirmed that investigators have traced the funding source of the chartered flight involved in the case to the South-based politician. The aircraft was connected to the confiscation of 521 kilograms of shabu, or crystal methamphetamine, in Laos. The breakthrough represents a significant development in unraveling the supply chain and financial networks behind the international drug trafficking operation. Calulut did not immediately disclose the politician's identity or provide additional details about the investigation's current status. The PDEA continues its probe into the broader network allegedly involved in financing and facilitating the drug shipment across the region.
