Mindoro towns enforce price freeze on basic goods amid calamity
Two municipalities in Occidental Mindoro have implemented a price freeze on nine essential commodities following declarations of separate states of calamity. The measure aims to protect residents affected by recent weather-related disasters.

The Department of Trade and Industry has enforced price controls on basic goods in Paluan and Sablayan municipalities, both of which have been declared under states of calamity due to weather-related emergencies. The freeze applies to nine essential commodities and was implemented under the provisions of Republic Act No. 7581, which grants the government authority to regulate prices during disaster situations.
The price freeze took effect immediately in both municipalities, preventing vendors and retailers from increasing prices on the covered basic commodities. This measure is intended to ensure that residents in calamity areas can continue to access affordable essential goods as they recover from disaster impacts.
The DTI's intervention reflects efforts by national authorities to support affected communities and prevent price exploitation during emergency periods. The freeze will remain in effect for as long as the states of calamity are in place in both Paluan and Sablayan.
