Minister questions police probe into lawyers in Noorizwan case

KUALA LUMPUR: Law Minister Saifuddin Nasution said on Tuesday he was puzzled by police action against lawyers in the Noorizwan case, though he acknowledged the limits of his ministerial authority in such investigations.

Speaking in Parliament, Saifuddin stated that while he could not interfere with ongoing police operations, the matter had piqued his interest. He stressed the importance of following established legal procedures and maintaining fairness in any investigation.

Denying claims that lawyers were being singled out or targeted, the minister called for adherence to due process in all proceedings. His comments came amid scrutiny of law enforcement activities related to the case, with observers closely monitoring whether professional privileges were being respected.

Saifuddin's remarks underline the delicate balance between judicial oversight and investigative independence, reflecting broader concerns about the conduct of inquiries involving members of the legal profession in Malaysia.
