The allegation emerged during testimony at an ongoing inquiry into the conduct of the former aide, identified as Sayed Amir. According to the witness account, Sayed Amir leveraged his proximity to the minister to extract financial concessions from a project contractor.
The witness stated that when he resisted the demand for a share of the project fees, he was threatened with restricted access to the minister. The pressure tactics allegedly continued until the matter escalated to authorities. The RM19 million project fee forms the basis of the investigation into potential abuse of position and improper conduct.
Authorities have indicated that they are examining the circumstances surrounding the demand and whether it constitutes extortion or related offences. The case highlights concerns about the misuse of ministerial office by junior staff members to extract personal financial gain.
The former aide has not publicly responded to the allegations. Investigators are expected to file findings with relevant authorities upon completion of their inquiry.
