Minor 3.7-magnitude quake strikes off Sabah coast
A weak earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale was detected off the coast of Sandakan in Sabah on Tuesday. No tsunami warning has been issued for Malaysia or surrounding regions.

Seismologists detected the tremor approximately 88 kilometres north of Sandakan, according to monitoring data released by the Malaysian Meteorological Department. The earthquake, classified as weak, occurred at a depth that posed minimal risk to populated areas in the state.
Official assessments indicated that no tsunami threat existed for Malaysia or neighbouring countries following the seismic event. The region experiences occasional minor earthquakes due to its position near active tectonic zones, though most tremors remain imperceptible to residents.
The Meteorological Department continued to monitor seismic activity in the area. Residents in Sandakan and surrounding communities reported no damage or significant impacts from the tremor. Authorities advised the public to remain vigilant and report any unusual seismic activity to relevant agencies.
