Minor earthquake strikes Sabah's Keningau district

A minor earthquake measuring 3.4 on the magnitude scale struck the Keningau district in Sabah on Tuesday, with tremors felt across the local area and neighbouring regions. The Malaysian Meteorological Department confirmed the seismic activity, which caused noticeable shaking but posed minimal risk to residents and infrastructure in the affected zone.

Keningau, located in the interior of Sabah in Malaysian Borneo, experienced the most pronounced effects of the tremor. The meteorological authorities noted that vibrations were also detected in communities surrounding the epicentre, though the relatively low magnitude limited the extent of impact across the wider region.

Earthquakes of this magnitude are generally considered weak and typically cause no structural damage to buildings or significant public safety concerns. The Malaysian Meteorological Department continues to monitor seismic activity in the area and will issue further updates should additional tremors occur.
