MIPP denies boycott after opting out of Melaka state election

The Malaysian Indian Progressive Party (MIPP) has clarified that its absence from the upcoming Melaka state election should not be construed as a boycott of the electoral process. Instead, the party characterised its decision as part of a coordinated effort to bolster representation of the Indian community in the state legislature.

Under this arrangement, MIPP is directing its support behind the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) candidate contesting in the Gadek constituency. Party officials said the move reflects a pragmatic approach to maximise Indian community representation within the state assembly.

The clarification comes as political coalitions in Melaka continue to take shape ahead of the state election. MIPP's decision to concentrate efforts on a single seat rather than field its own candidates across multiple constituencies represents a shift in strategy for the party.

By backing MIC's Gadek nominee, MIPP aims to ensure that Indian voters in the state remain adequately represented in legislative proceedings. The party said this collaborative approach strengthens the voice of the minority community in state politics.
