Misbah Criticises Unequal Treatment of Foreign, Local Coaches in Pakistan

Misbah-ul-Haq, who recently stepped down as national selector, has publicly flagged what he describes as a systemic disparity in how foreign and local coaches are treated within Pakistan's cricket administration. Speaking on a television programme, the former captain argued that foreign coaches enjoy considerably more institutional support and autonomy compared to their domestic counterparts.

"Local and foreign coaches are treated differently in Pakistan cricket," Misbah stated, emphasising that domestic coaches face greater scrutiny and criticism when their teams underperform. He acknowledged that employing foreign coaches is not inherently problematic but expressed concern about an institutional bias that favours international appointments.

According to Misbah, the Pakistani cricket establishment—including fans, media commentators, and the PCB itself—tends to show preferential treatment to foreign coaches. He noted that international coaches are typically granted more decision-making power and authority while facing diminished accountability when teams perform poorly.

Misbah's remarks come following his recent resignation as national selector. His departure occurred after the Pakistan Cricket Board issued a formal notice to the selection committee following a significant team restructuring during the national squad's tour of England. The timing of his comments underscores ongoing tensions within Pakistan's cricket administration regarding coaching arrangements and oversight mechanisms.
