Mizoram's final electoral roll swells to 8.35 lakh after claims process

Mizoram's electoral rolls have been updated following the completion of the claims and objections process, resulting in a final voter count of 8,35,149 electors, according to the state's Chief Electoral Officer Garima Gupta.

The draft electoral rolls published on July 4 contained 8,28,906 registered voters. During the subsequent claims and objections period, which concluded on September 2, authorities processed significant changes to the voter database, removing 32,280 names while adding 39,243 new voters.

These modifications resulted in a net increase of 6,963 electors compared to the draft rolls, representing a marginal increase of 0.84 percent. The finalized rolls are now ready for use in upcoming electoral processes in the northeastern state.

The claims and objections phase is a standard part of the electoral roll revision process, allowing citizens to lodge disputes regarding voter registration and seek additions or deletions to the voter list. The completion of this phase marks the conclusion of the current electoral roll updation exercise in Mizoram.
