MMDA, four cities unite on Marcos Highway traffic management strategy

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) formalized a collaborative traffic management initiative on Wednesday, signing a Memorandum of Understanding with four adjacent local government units to address chronic congestion on Marcos Highway.

The agreement binds the cities of Pasig, Marikina, and Antipolo, as well as the municipality of Cainta, to coordinate their traffic response efforts along the heavily-used thoroughfare. Marcos Highway serves as a major arterial route connecting Metro Manila to Rizal province, making traffic conditions there a persistent concern for commuters and the broader region.

Under the pact, the participating LGUs commit to intensified coordination in addressing traffic bottlenecks, implementing synchronized traffic management protocols, and sharing real-time information to optimize vehicle flow across jurisdictional boundaries. The MMDA will serve as the coordinating body for the initiative.

The memorandum reflects growing recognition among regional authorities that traffic congestion spanning multiple municipalities requires unified strategies rather than isolated municipal interventions. Officials indicated the agreement represents a first step toward more systematic management of the corridor.
