MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced a temporary halt to all road excavation projects across Metro Manila's national and city roads, effective immediately to address anticipated holiday traffic congestion.
The suspension was disclosed in an advisory released over the weekend, with the agency citing the need to minimize disruptions during the Christmas season when traffic volumes typically surge across the metropolitan area. Road construction and maintenance work has been identified as a significant factor contributing to congestion in the heavily traveled capital region.
The MMDA's decision reflects growing concerns about traffic management during peak holiday periods, when thousands of Filipinos travel to celebrate the festive season. By pausing excavation and related road work, the authority hopes to maintain smoother traffic flow on major thoroughfares and secondary roads throughout the region.
The temporary suspension period is expected to remain in effect through the Christmas holiday season. The MMDA stated that postponed projects will resume after the peak holiday travel period concludes.
