The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is pushing for inclusion of a comprehensive drainage master plan in next year's national budget. The move aims to address persistent flooding issues affecting the capital region.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will lobby for funding dedicated to Metro Manila's drainage master plan in the 2027 national budget, MMDA Chair Don Artes announced Tuesday.
The initiative follows a recommendation from Metro Manila Council President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora to secure the allocation during the next budget cycle, also known as the General Appropriations Act (GAA).
The drainage master plan is intended to provide a comprehensive framework for managing water systems across the metropolitan area and reducing the frequency and severity of flooding that regularly impacts residents and businesses.
The MMDA's budget proposal will be submitted as part of the broader national budgeting process for fiscal year 2027. Officials have indicated that securing dedicated funding for infrastructure improvements is critical to implementing long-term flood mitigation strategies in the capital region.
