MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced Friday that the number coding scheme will not be enforced on August 21, when the Philippines observes Ninoy Aquino Day as a special nonworking holiday.

Ninoy Aquino Day marks the anniversary of the assassination of the late senator and opposition leader. As a special public holiday, regular government operations and certain commercial activities are suspended across the metro.

The MMDA noted that the suspension of number coding enforcement is automatic during regular holidays and special nonworking holidays. The policy is designed to align traffic management procedures with national observances and reduce congestion when many government offices and businesses are closed.

Motorists are reminded to check the MMDA's official announcements for updates on traffic policies and schemes during holidays. The number coding scheme, which restricts vehicle movement based on license plate numbers, typically operates from Monday to Friday on regular working days.
