The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has formally stated that the Negeri Sembilan branch of the MMKN lacks jurisdiction, authority, or powers under the Rulers Council Act (UUTKNS) to make official announcements regarding Tuanku Muhriz, the Sultan of Negeri Sembilan.
In a clarification issued following recent developments, the AGC emphasised that any statement issued by the state MMKN council in relation to the Ruler does not carry legal standing or effect. The advisory underscores the limits of the council's constitutional powers and mandate.
The MMKN, which serves as a consultative body for matters of national importance, operates within defined parameters established by federal law. The AGC's statement reinforces the hierarchy of constitutional authority in Malaysia's system of governance, particularly regarding matters that fall under the purview of the monarchy.
This clarification comes amid discussions surrounding the appropriate channels and bodies authorised to make pronouncements on issues affecting the state's Ruler. Officials have emphasised the importance of adhering to constitutional procedures and respecting the distinct jurisdictional boundaries of various government institutions.
