The earthquake occurred at 2:42 pm Thursday, originating from a depth of 10 kilometers beneath Solsona town, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The moderate-strength tremor was widely felt across northern provinces, including parts of Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
Phivolcs recorded Intensity II shaking in Batac City, indicating light earthquake effects that were perceptible indoors but unlikely to cause structural damage. The intensity scale assessment suggests the quake caused minimal disruption to daily activities across affected areas.
No immediate reports of casualties or significant property damage have been issued following the Thursday afternoon tremor. Regional authorities continued monitoring seismic activity in the area as of late Thursday, with Phivolcs maintaining standard post-earthquake surveillance protocols.
The earthquake adds to recent seismic activity in the Cordillera and Ilocos regions, which sit along major fault lines in the Philippine archipelago. Residents in earthquake-prone areas are routinely advised to maintain emergency preparedness measures.
