Moderate earthquake strikes Indonesia with 5.2 magnitude

The earthquake hit Indonesia at 5:07 a.m. local time on Sunday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed. The tremor was recorded at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometres below the surface, characteristics typical of moderately strong seismic events in the region.

Indonesia, situated on the Pacific Ring of Fire, experiences frequent seismic activity due to its position along multiple tectonic plate boundaries. The archipelago is among the world's most earthquake-prone regions, with hundreds of tremors occurring annually across its vast territory.

The 5.2 magnitude quake fell within the moderate range of earthquake intensity. While such tremors can be felt across a wide area and may cause minor damage to structures, no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage were available from the NCS following the Sunday morning event.
