Moderate earthquake strikes waters near Batu Pahat in Johor
A 4.4-magnitude earthquake centred off the coast of Batu Pahat was felt across multiple states in peninsular Malaysia on Wednesday. The tremors were detected in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department confirmed the moderate earthquake struck in waters off Batu Pahat, a district in southern Johor. The tremor registered 4.4 on the magnitude scale, making it the latest seismic activity recorded in the region.
Residents across seven jurisdictions reported feeling the tremors as they rippled across the peninsula. The affected areas included the state of Johor where the epicentre was located, as well as the neighbouring states of Melaka and Negeri Sembilan. The shaking was also felt in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, indicating the earthquake's considerable reach.
No immediate reports of casualties or significant damage were reported following the incident. The meteorological department continued to monitor seismic activity in the area. Authorities reminded residents in earthquake-prone regions to remain alert and follow safety protocols during seismic events.
