Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday cautioned that nations are increasingly targeting each other's economic systems through cyber warfare, moving beyond traditional military confrontation. Addressing attendees at the inauguration of the Reserve Bank of India's new data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute, Modi highlighted the evolving nature of threats to national security in the digital age.
The Prime Minister underscored the significance of the RBI's newly established facilities, which represent a combined investment of Rs 169 crore. According to Modi, these infrastructure developments will prove instrumental in strengthening India's defensive capabilities against cyber threats and enhancing the nation's preparedness to counter digital attacks.
The cybersecurity training institute is expected to build specialized expertise among professionals tasked with protecting critical financial and digital infrastructure. The state-of-the-art data centre will enhance the RBI's operational resilience and data management capabilities, officials said.
Modi's remarks come amid growing global concern over sophisticated cyber attacks targeting financial institutions and government systems. Security experts have increasingly documented coordinated campaigns that exploit vulnerabilities in digital networks to access sensitive economic and strategic information.
The RBI initiatives align with India's broader push to strengthen cybersecurity frameworks across critical sectors, reflecting the government's recognition of digital threats as a significant national security challenge.
