Modi government won't complete term, says Mamata on voting rights

Mamata Banerjee on Thursday escalated her attack on the central government, asserting that those responsible for undermining democratic voting rights would face public backlash. The former West Bengal chief minister made the remarks a day after a gathering of opposition parties under the INDIA bloc banner, intensifying her criticism of the Narendra Modi administration's electoral conduct.

The TMC leader claimed the Modi government lacks the constitutional legitimacy to complete its full term, attributing her assertion to widespread concerns about the integrity of electoral processes. Banerjee alleged that voters in West Bengal had been systematically deprived of their democratic rights during the state assembly elections, characterizing the polls as compromised by institutional bias.

Central to her allegations was a claim that the Election Commission of India acted in collusion with the BJP during the West Bengal elections, according to Banerjee's interpretation. She suggested that the electoral machinery had been weaponized to favour the ruling party at the Centre, thereby undermining the autonomy and fairness of the state-level democratic process.

Banerjee's comments reflect escalating tensions between regional opposition parties and the Modi government ahead of anticipated political developments. Her remarks align with broader INDIA bloc positions questioning the impartiality of electoral institutions, a criticism that opposition parties have raised with increasing frequency in recent months.
