Modi govt will face consequences for electoral malpractices: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday levelled serious allegations against the central government, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would be held accountable for what he termed 'vote chori' or electoral fraud.

Addressing a gathering in Goa after a two-kilometre march alongside workers and party leaders, Gandhi broadened his critique of the government's administrative approach. He lamented the erosion of India's educational standards, contrasting the nation's historical reputation as a world-class education hub with current circumstances.

The Congress leader sharply criticised the government's response to student demonstrations, highlighting the use of pellet guns against protesting students as symptomatic of broader governance failures. His remarks underscored growing tensions between the opposition and ruling establishment over electoral conduct and public order management.

Gandhi's statements reflect the Congress party's sustained campaign against the government ahead of key electoral contests. The accusations of vote manipulation have become a recurring theme in opposition discourse, with various parties alleging irregularities in the electoral process.

The remarks also signal the Congress's intention to mobilise workers and civil society around issues of democratic accountability and student welfare, positioning itself as an alternative voice to the incumbent administration.
