Modi inaugurates ₹13,000-crore development push across Tamil Nadu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday presided over a development ceremony at IIT Madras where he formally inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple large-scale projects across Tamil Nadu. The initiatives, undertaken jointly with Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, represent a combined investment exceeding ₹13,000 crore and span critical infrastructure sectors including road and rail transport, maritime logistics, and petroleum.

Highway development constitutes a significant component of the initiative, with National Highways projects accounting for approximately ₹3,700 crore of the total outlay. The ceremony also marked progress on port modernization efforts, with development work initiated at Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port, and V O Chidambaranar Port. Additionally, multiple railway stations are being developed under the Amrit Station scheme, aimed at enhancing passenger infrastructure across the state.

Beyond conventional infrastructure, Modi dedicated the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre (SGBC) at IIT Madras to the nation. The facility represents a cutting-edge global scientific initiative designed to create three-dimensional neurological atlases mapping over 100 human brains at cellular resolution across the human lifespan, from foetal development through old age. The Prime Minister also released C-STROKE, a comprehensive human ischaemic stroke atlas featuring more than 1,000 annotated cases, marking a significant advancement in medical research and stroke management protocols.
