Modi inaugurates ₹13,000 crore Tamil Nadu infrastructure projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated multiple infrastructure projects valued at ₹13,000 crore across Tamil Nadu on Friday, marking a significant push to expand the state's transport connectivity and urban development capacity. The initiatives include a new stretch of the Chennai Metro Phase II, which is expected to ease congestion in the metropolitan area and improve regional mobility.

The project launches reflect ongoing coordination between the Union government and Tamil Nadu authorities to modernize the state's infrastructure backbone. Officials stated that the completed projects represent investments in sustainable urban transportation and allied development sectors.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who was present at the event, sought central government approval for additional metro routes and railway corridor expansions. The proposals aim to further integrate Chennai and surrounding areas, supporting both economic growth and urban planning objectives across the region.

The Chennai Metro Phase II extension is anticipated to handle increased passenger volumes and complement existing transport networks. Together with the proposed new corridors, the projects are designed to facilitate commerce, reduce travel times, and support Tamil Nadu's broader development agenda.

These infrastructure initiatives form part of the Centre's National Infrastructure Pipeline, which prioritizes high-impact projects across India's metropolitan centers. Tamil Nadu has emerged as a focus area for such investments given its economic significance and urbanization trajectory.
