Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) State President Chintha Jerome has alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan are operating under a dual-option strategy designed to either compel obedience or neutralise opposition voices in the state.
Jerome's allegation underscores growing friction between different political camps in Kerala, with the youth wing claiming that federal and state authorities are coordinating to suppress dissenting viewpoints. The DYFI, the youth organisation affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), has been critical of both the Centre's policies and the state government's approach on various matters.
The charge reflects broader concerns within Kerala's Left-aligned political circles about what they perceive as increasing centralisation of power and restrictions on democratic expression. Similar allegations have surfaced periodically as various opposition groups challenge both Union and state government policies.
Chief Minister Satheesan's administration, which came to power in 2021, has faced criticism from multiple quarters since assuming office, with debates intensifying over developmental priorities and governance approaches.
