Modi offers India's humanitarian assistance as Nepal battles devastating floods
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured his Nepalese counterpart Balendra Shah of India's full support following catastrophic flooding in central Nepal that has claimed at least four lives. The disaster has caused widespread devastation across multiple districts and damaged numerous hydropower installations.

Modi spoke with PM Shah on Wednesday, expressing condolences for those lost in the natural disaster and pledging India's readiness to provide comprehensive humanitarian assistance to its neighbour. The Indian Prime Minister also conveyed that the Indian people stand in solidarity with Nepal during this crisis.
A sudden, massive flood inundated two central Nepalese districts in the early hours of Wednesday, originating from the Bhote Koshi river system that borders Tibet. The deluge affected Rasuwa and Dhading districts, which lie along the Tibetan frontier, as well as Nuwakot district southwest of Kathmandu, according to Nepalese officials.
The floodwaters surged through the Bhote Koshi river at approximately 9 am local time, triggering extensive devastation in settlements along its path. The disaster has damaged at least a dozen hydropower projects, compounding the humanitarian emergency facing the affected regions.
India, which shares a 1,850-kilometre border with Nepal, has historically provided swift assistance during natural disasters affecting its neighbours. The offer of support comes as Nepalese authorities continue assessing the full scale of damage and the number of persons affected by the flooding.
