Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated Pune Metro Line 3 on Tuesday, marking another addition to the country's expanding metropolitan rail network. The opening underscores the substantial progress made in developing rapid transit systems across Indian cities over the past decade.

During the inauguration ceremony, Modi emphasized the transformation of India's metro infrastructure landscape, highlighting the growth achieved since 2012. The expansion of metro networks has become a cornerstone of the government's urban development agenda, aimed at easing congestion and improving mobility in major cities.

In a significant move toward future expansion, Modi also laid the foundation stone for four new metro corridors under Phase-II development in Pune. The comprehensive project entails a combined investment of approximately Rs 21,800 crore, reflecting the government's commitment to scaling up metropolitan rail infrastructure.

The Phase-II corridors are expected to further integrate Pune's transportation network, connecting previously underserved areas and facilitating better transit connectivity. These new lines are anticipated to serve millions of commuters once operational, contributing to the broader vision of sustainable urban mobility across the country.

India's metro network has experienced substantial growth over the past 12 years, with multiple cities establishing or expanding their rapid transit systems. The continued investment in metro infrastructure reflects the government's strategic focus on modernizing urban transportation and supporting economic development in metropolitan areas.
