Modi presents Tamil classic to Putin ahead of BRICS summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Russian President Vladimir Putin with the Tirukkural, one of Tamil literature's most revered works, during their bilateral meeting at India Mandapam in New Delhi. The gift, a text authored by the ancient Tamil saint Tiruvalluvar, underscores India's cultural diplomacy efforts with a key strategic partner.

Putin's visit marks his first engagement with Prime Minister Modi ahead of the BRICS summit, reflecting the importance India places on its relationship with Russia. The meeting comes amid ongoing cooperation between the two nations across multiple sectors including defence, energy, and trade.

The Tirukkural, comprising 1,330 couplets organized thematically around virtue, wealth, and love, has been celebrated for over two millennia as a masterpiece of Tamil philosophical literature. Its presentation to Putin carries symbolic significance, representing India's efforts to share its cultural heritage with world leaders.

The bilateral meeting at India Mandapam preceded the BRICS conference, with the gathering expected to focus on expanding cooperation among member nations and addressing regional and global challenges.
