Modi, Tamil Nadu CM inaugurate ₹13,000-crore development projects in Chennai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday jointly flagged off several significant infrastructure projects in Chennai, marking a collaborative effort between the Centre and the state government. The day's events included the formal inauguration of a new stretch of the Chennai Metro rapid transit system alongside the unveiling of multiple development initiatives totalling over ₹13,000 crore.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of infrastructure development in driving economic growth and improving quality of life for citizens. During his remarks, Modi recalled his interactions with senior political leaders during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, including the late DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi, noting the value of constructive engagement between state administrations.

The Chennai Metro extension is expected to enhance connectivity across the city and facilitate smoother commute for residents. The broader project portfolio encompasses transportation, urban development, and civic infrastructure components designed to support Chennai's growing population and economic activities.

The joint initiative reflects the coordination between the Modi government and the Stalin-led state administration on priority development schemes. Officials indicated that the projects would be implemented in phases, with timelines and resource allocation to be managed by respective implementing agencies.
