Modi to champion security and connectivity at SCO summit in Central Asia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed Saturday for a two-nation tour of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, where he will advance India's vision for regional stability anchored in security, connectivity and economic opportunity at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.

Modi is scheduled to visit Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic from August 29 to September 1, with the SCO summit forming the centrepiece of his diplomatic engagement in Central Asia. In a departure statement, the Prime Minister outlined India's strategic priorities for the regional bloc, emphasising the need for collective action against terrorism and separatism that threaten stability across the region.
India has maintained an active role within the SCO since joining the eight-member organisation in 2017. The Prime Minister said he was confident the visit would strengthen India's strategic partnerships in Central Asia while deepening cultural and civilisational ties with nations across the region.
Modi characterised the tour as an opportunity to advance shared objectives of peace, stability and prosperity—principles he identified as central to India's broader international engagement. The visit aims to reinforce bilateral relations while positioning India as a constructive voice in regional security discussions and economic cooperation initiatives within the SCO framework.
