MOH to scrutinise helicopter contracts following fatal Sarawak crash

The Ministry of Health (MOH) will conduct a full review of its helicopter service contracts and associated allowances in the wake of a fatal crash in Sarawak, the ministry said on Friday.
The review encompasses all existing contracts for helicopter medical evacuation services across the country, as well as the RM30 flight allowance currently provided to health personnel utilising these services.
The move comes as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the recent crash, which claimed lives and has raised concerns about the safety protocols and arrangements governing medical helicopter operations. The MOH said the review aims to ensure all contracts meet the highest safety standards and that personnel allowances are appropriately calibrated.
No timeline was provided for the completion of the review. The ministry said further details would be announced following consultations with relevant stakeholders and a thorough assessment of current operational procedures.
