Mohun Bagan waste chances as Punjab FC advances in IFA Shield

Mohun Bagan dominated large portions of their IFA Shield semi-final encounter against Punjab FC at a Kolkata venue on Tuesday, but failed to capitalize on multiple opportunities that could have secured their passage to the final.

The home team created numerous chances throughout the match, with their attacking players repeatedly testing Punjab FC's defense. However, poor finishing and resolute defending from the visitors ensured that Mohun Bagan could not convert their superiority into goals.

Punjab FC, despite absorbing considerable pressure, managed to contain Mohun Bagan's offensive threats and staged a rear-guard action that kept them in contention. The northern club's defensive discipline proved crucial in frustrating their opponents' attacking ambitions.

The result leaves the semi-final encounter finely poised, with both teams still in contention for a place in the IFA Shield final. Mohun Bagan will need to improve their conversion rate in any subsequent proceedings, while Punjab FC demonstrated their ability to withstand pressure from a stronger attacking side.
