Monaco to host F1 sprint race as F1 expands format to record 10 events

Formula 1 has confirmed that the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix will feature a sprint race in 2027, as the sport continues its expansion of the high-intensity format. The decision marks a significant shift for the circuit, which will join a growing list of venues hosting the shorter, faster racing events.

The 2027 season will see sprint races at 10 circuits in total, establishing a new record for the format introduced in 2021. Five venues will host sprint events for the first time, diversifying the format across F1's global calendar.

Despite being one of Asia's most prominent F1 venues, Singapore will not be among the circuits introducing sprint races in 2027. The Marina Bay circuit will continue operating under the traditional race weekend format.

The sprint format, typically featuring a shorter race distance held on Saturday preceding the main Grand Prix on Sunday, has become increasingly popular among fans and the sport's stakeholders. It provides additional racing action and entertainment value across the weekend.
