Manila, Philippines — Multiple sections of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) were severely congested Monday due to flooding caused by the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat. The NLEx Corporation reported heavy traffic conditions in its 9 a.m. advisory, with the Libtong Exit in Meycauayan, Bulacan, temporarily closed to prevent vehicles from entering flooded areas.
The seasonal monsoon system has brought substantial rainfall across the region, creating hazardous conditions on key transportation routes. The temporary closure of the Libtong Exit forced traffic to divert to alternative routes, contributing to bottlenecks along the expressway during morning rush hours.
The NLEx Corporation did not immediately provide an estimated timeframe for reopening the affected exit. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes and exercise caution while navigating the expressway, particularly in low-lying sections susceptible to flooding during heavy rainfall.
