Monsoon rains displace over 200 families in Batangas town

LUCENA CITY — Severe flooding triggered by intense southwest monsoon rains has displaced 233 families comprising approximately 703 individuals across 12 barangays in the Batangas municipality of Lian. The municipal government confirmed the scale of the disaster in an advisory issued at midday Wednesday. Among those affected, 221 families totaling 658 individuals sought shelter in 17 evacuation centers established by local authorities. Flooding remains a recurring concern in the region during the monsoon season, which brings sustained heavy rainfall to parts of the Philippines. Municipal officials have not yet issued details regarding the duration of evacuation or assessments of property damage from the flooding.
